On January 4, RPM Training will kick off their fifth-annual 10K Challenge: 10,000 double-unders in 30 days or less.
Remind me: The 10K Challenge started in 2015 as a grassroots, social initiative, and evolved into a charitable initiative in 2017.
Funds from the challenge benefit Iron Compass Initiative (ICI), a nonprofit arm of RPM created in 2018 to support programs that provide functional training, like CrossFit, and mentorship to underprivileged and at-risk youth, and other charitable partners.
In 2020 and again this year, the primary charitable partner is Steve’s Club National Program, which carries a similar mission to the ICI, bringing fitness, nutrition, and mentorship to at-risk youth at low or no-cost through their chapters across the country.
The details: Athletes anywhere can participate in the 10K Challenge. All that’s needed is a jump rope.
- Can’t do double-unders? Don’t worry. Swap them out for single unders or a mix of the two.
- Registration is $20 and open now. After registering, individual athletes have the option of joining a virtual team. Affiliates can sign up their members as a team or host a live 10K Challenge event.
- 100% of the proceeds go to ICI and Steve’s Club National Program. Direct donations can be made on the registration page or on the RPM training site.
- Athletes have 30 days to complete their jumps. Once registered, athletes gain access to a dashboard where they can log daily jumps, see friends’ progress, and get perks from various sponsors, including Whoop, Momentous, Amp Human, LifeAid, and The Ready State.
- Last year, over 12 million jumps were logged in the 30-day challenge. Though they don’t know the specifics on the fastest finishing time, the RPM team says some participants nearly completed all 10,000 jumps in one day.
Educational resources, courtesy of The Ready State, are also available to participants. These videos cover jump prep and mobility, skill work, and, new for 2021, kids-focused jump rope materials.
Why it matters: Last year, with 2,000 participating jumpers, the 10K Challenge raised over $30,000. These funds allowed the ICI to launch a grant providing funds to affiliates looking to open new chapters of Steve’s Club. Though they don’t have an expected number of jumpers this year, the goal of the RPM team has always been to grow both participation and impact.
