In 1927, the home was built through Edith Mae Cummings' real estate firm Edith Mae Cummings Co. According to a 2022 Facebook post by Preservation Dearborn, Cummings started her own company during the Roaring 20's after joining a real estate firm and making a total of $110K in sales in just 45 days, which is more than $1.7 million in today's dollars. The comments on the post are filled with a century's worth of stories about the mansion.
The post says Cummings platted a subdivision of 396 lots near Ford Road and Telegraph in 1925 but saved the Tudor mansion for herself, calling it an expression of her "belief and faith in the great possibilities of Dearborn."
She mysteriously sold the home in 1930 and was shot and killed by her business partner in 1938 in a real estate scandal. Hopefully, whoever the new owner is has better luck than the first one.
