Marvel Execs Tried to Shut Down the One-Take Fight Scene

Marvel executives tried to shut down the epic one-take fight scene in Daredevil against Charlie Cox’s wishes. The sequence in question is from Cut Man the first episode of season 1, and it shows Cox’s Daredevil battling a gang of thugs in a small corridor. It was expertly choreographed, and filmed, and of the most recognizable scenes in the performance.

Executives from Marvel, though, weren’t initially willing to let the moment be shot in a single take. They were concerned that it would be too hazardous and challenging to pull off. Cox insisted that the moment be captured in a single take, and he ultimately persuaded the producers to agree.

The sequence was filmed only once and it required several days of rehearsal. Cox did all of his own stunt work and had many injuries while filming. He was, nevertheless, adamant on nailing the moment, and he did so in the end. The finished picture is a wonderful work of art and a monument to Cox’s ability and commitment. The showrunner, Tom Lieber, said,

“Charlie was really excited about it. Our camera operator was really excited about it. Alex was beaming about it. We were like, ‘We should just do it. We should just try it. We have to set them up for success with this.'”

Charlie Cox later claimed that he really wanted to take the whole shot in a single take no matter how hard the filming would be. Moreover, he claimed that making it in a single take would be more entertaining and thrilling for both his and the show’s fans. Although it was very hard to pull off, the necessary training and precautions that the actor and the team took really thrived during the take.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Season 4 Is the Next Best Thing

According to certain rumors, Charlie Cox objected to Marvel officials using CGI to improve his appearance in his appearance as Daredevil. However, the usage of CGI in She-Hulk has drawn considerable criticism, particularly for how Daredevil is portrayed. Some viewers have complained that the CGI is subpar and makes Daredevil appear artificial and out of place. Others have complained that the CGI is excessively cartoonish and does not fit the show’s more realistic tone.

However, Daredevil season 4 or a soft reboot is officially happening! It will debut on Disney+ in the spring of 2024. The show will be based on the Daredevil: Born Again comic book arc, which follows Matt Murdock as he must face his foes and confront his past. Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are expected to return in their respective roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk respectively.
