Even with vaccine distribution ramping up, mask-wearing is here to stay. Now it turns out that one mask might not cut it anymore. And that two masks are better than one.
Dr. Anthony Fauci has endorsed the practice. Earlier this week, Gov. Phil Murphy emerged from voluntary quarantine sporting a double layer of masks. And new research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows you’re better off wearing two masks if your single face covering doesn’t fit tightly or doesn’t have multiple layers.
Medical experts say it’s not as simple as slapping a new mask on top of the old. There are a few basic rules to follow, and some sound science behind them. Montclair State University epidemiologist Dr. Stephanie Silvera, who has been doubling-masking for months, explains.
