The City of Oklahoma City is not immune to the labor shortage, and staff says they need to fill some jobs as soon as possible. Now they are trying a new cash incentive to get people to join the city's workforce.

"We are offering signing bonuses for our hard-to-fill positions," Zach Nash said with the City of Oklahoma City.

They need to fill positions ranging from a 911 dispatcher to industrial engineers to joining the city's police department, with more than 600 positions needing to be filled.

"The job market is very tight. A lot of people are struggling to hire. We want to do what we can to hire," said Nash.

The city plans to give incentives to those who get a job in the city ranging from $2500 to $5500 as a sign-on bonus.

But Oklahoma sits as one of the leading metropolitan areas with the lowest unemployment rate.

"We are in a difficult labor market, and we need to do what we can to get employees to get a job with the city," said Nash.
