From the living plant wall to the built-in speakers next to the jetted soaking tub, Ana and Ivo Leary have put every consideration into their Winthrop condo. Now the couple is looking to pass the colorful home on to a new owner.
“The quote that people say the most is ‘Your house feels like I’m in a museum,’ ” Ana said, “and I feel like that’s kind of reflective of the way we collect pieces.”
The couple’s Winthrop home, Unit 2 at 116 Bowdoin St., is a three-bed, two-bath upper-level condo. The price for the unit, which measures 2,192 square feet, recently dropped to $799,900.
“The entire condo is drenched with sun,” said Roxanne Curzi of Centre Realty Group, who has the listing. “It’s painted dark colors, but it’s really very bright.”
The color scheme was inspired by the couple’s time in Brazil and the work of famed architectural designer Sid Bergamin. Filled with rich textiles and bright décor, the home can be purchased furnished. The kitchen flows nicely into the dining area, where two large windows stream in natural light. An elegant living room offers a gathering space in the home, while also providing a pathway to the sunroom, which is an addition. The property itself dates to 1900.
The technology of the home is also quite unusual. It features high-end sound, home automation, smart-home control, and ethernet systems — all installed by Ivo’s company, Sound Aficionado.
“A lot of what he specializes in he has installed in our home, so what’s there you really only see in Beacon Hill and Back Bay,” Ana said.
A bedroom on the main level has been transformed into a custom home theater. Upstairs, the primary bedroom suite gets significant sun and offers a bath with a deep, jetted tub and dual sinks.
Outside, a spacious yard that is shared with the lower unit is grassy and filled with lush landscaping. There is a well-maintained shed for storage, as well as two deeded parking spots.
The couple has been in the home since January 2017 and said it’s a “really, really tough decision” to leave.
“On the other hand, we’re both pretty creative people and we love design, so one thing that’s great about finishing a project is looking to the next clean slate,” Ana said.
