CLEVELAND, Ohio – To little surprise, reservations for Great Lakes Brewing Co.'s annual Christmas Ale First Pour party have filled.

The brewery announced Tuesday the party that kicks off the holiday season in Cleveland would still go on, just in a Covid way. Because of coronavirus restrictions the all-day soiree that draws a queue wrapping around the brewpub will have a different format. Smiling, thirsty beer lovers decked out in red and green can still quaff the ale, but with a few new rules: Reservations were being accepted, no standing room or lines would be allowed, and masks would be required.

Reservations filled in just under four hours, a rep for the brewery said.

In addition, the brewery announced five at-home Christmas Ale-themed package options (pre-orders are required; no walk-up sales will be allowed). Online pre-orders will start at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12.

The First Pour: A crowler (32 ounces) of Christmas Ale, $14, limit two.

The First (and Second) Pour: Two crowlers, two snifters, $43.90, limit one.

The Stocking Stuffer: Four crowlers, four snifters, one ornament, one holiday hat, $116.70, limit one.

The 12 Days of Christmas Ale: One 1/6 barrel keg, $110 (plus $30 deposit), limit one. (A 1/6 barrel keg is 41 pints.)

The Ultimate First Pour at Home Celebration: One 1/6 barrel keg, four snifters, one ornament, one holiday hat, one pair of socks, one bottle of Christmas Ale ham glaze, $188.64 (plus $30 deposit), limit one.

Bottles of the spicy, seasonal ale will be available in the gift shop beginning Friday, Oct. 23. Retail distribution of Christmas Ale is set to start Monday, Oct. 26.
