5 things to do this week: Metropolitan Youth Symphony, and Do-it-yourself Turkey Trot - OregonLive

maknains.blogspot.com

Thanksgiving already? Yep, it’s already time for turkey, stuffing and cranberries, likely with fewer people around the table. With many counties across the state still in Gov. Kate Brown’s "pause” on social gathering through Nov. 25, we’ve rounded up some virtual and socially distanced entertainment options this week.

“Love in the Time of Piñatas”

Portland Center Stage presents a recording of the staged reading of a play that brings love, piñatas, and donuts to the fight against injustice, hatred, and oppression. Porras Hernandez, actor and playwright, shares stories of his journey as a gay Latino boy growing up in Toluca, Mexico, and immigrating to California. Through poetry, stand-up comedy, and sweaty go-go dance vibes, the play serves up whimsy, sparkle and shine with sly and smart social commentary. Note: show contains adult content and partial nudity.

Streamed online via PCS website. This recording is available for a limited time; pay-what-you-will pricing starts at $5; details on the website or by calling the box office; 503-445-3700.

Extended Turkey Trot

This annual tradition for active metro area families normally takes place Thanksgiving morning. But for 2020, the Oregon Road Runners Club’s most popular race has gone virtual. That means participants run on their own and record their miles up until Dec. 3, then report to the club. This year’s race offers two new distances: a 10K virtual event and a 20-mile challenge, in addition to the 4-mile race.

Sign up online before midnight Wednesday, Nov. 25; registration prices $30-$50 depending on event; orrc.net. Bib pickup noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, Foot Traffic West, 13306 N.W. Cornell Road. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Oregon Zoo

.
