When towing is your target — for that fifth-wheel camper or construction site trailer — there really isn’t much more to look at than Ford’s Super Duty F-350.

With ultimate comfort and power via the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel engine, the F-350 is the “ultimate towing machine.” Coming in at a stunning 475 horsepower of diesel fire-breathing horsepower and 1,050 ft.-lb. of torque, our loaded up Platinum tester was no lumber wagon, yet a dream to tow and go off-road. The diesel option was an additional $10,495.

Competing in this category is an abundance of choices, like the RAM 3500 Limited, GMC 3500 Sierra Denali or Chevrolet Silverado 3500, all of which are American-made, with similar powertrain options and towing capabilities, yet the Ford remains dominant, with advantages in appearance and comfort.

We took our $595 Star White optioned tester up to New York’s Shawangunk Ridge in hopes to give the 7,481-pound truck a true mountain haul test and it did great. With elevations over 2,000 feet above sea level, the F-350 enjoyed going up and down the mountain with no struggle. In fact we loaded the bed of the truck down with a stack of wood pallets to see if the weight unmanaged the ride and it didn’t. The ride actually improved with a load on it. We had no issues off-road either and still the ride maintained its posture through rough dusty terrain. Deep holes were no match as the clearance of the F-350 Platinum was perfect. Fuel capacity options extend from 29-, 34- and 48-gallon fuel tanks. Our tester came with a 34-gallon tank, standard on the Crew Cab Diesel.

The interior, spacious and roomy, is filled with tons of accoutrements, including the SYNC3 8-inch infotainment system. The dark Marsala interior had no additional cost and gave some flavor to the scene. Seats are super comfortable and the front ones massage, while the back seats are not only spacious enough for passengers, but for cargo as well. Power twin panel moonroof, adaptive cruise control and wireless charging pad were great features.

The warranty for Ford’s Super Duty is three years / 36,000 bumper to bumper, five years / 100,000 miles for the powertrain (only on the diesel) and roadside assistance for five years / 60,000 miles.
