That vacancy on Nick Nurse’s Raptors coaching staff wasn’t open long.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Nurse will be filling that opening created by Indiana’s hiring of Nate Bjorkgren as their new head coach with former New Orleans assistant coach Chris Finch.
Nurse and Finch go way back to their days in the British Basketball League coaching against one another.
The two also locked horns in the D-League.
When Finch was named head coach of Britain’s entry in the 2012 London Olympics, he brought Nurse along as an assistant.
Like Nurse, Finch is considered an innovator when it comes to offensive sets and schemes. And like Nurse was until he replaced Dwane Casey, Finch is very much considered a future head coach in the NBA.
There was plenty of chatter about him being in line for the head job in New Orleans when Alvin Gentry and the team parted ways in mid-August.
That job wound up going to Stan Van Gundy, which opened the door for Nurse to re-unite with his old friend.
