Weeks after Stephen Silas left Rick Carlisle' staff to become the Rockets' head coach, the Mavericks have filled his spot.

Zach Guthrie, an assistant for Utah since the 2015-16 season, will join the Mavericks staff, a source confirmed Sunday. ESPN was first to report the hiring.

Guthrie has also worked in behind-the-scenes video and scouting roles for the Spurs and Magic since graduating from the University of Texas business school in 2010.

He’s the son of longtime Spurs marketing executive Bruce Guthrie and started his pro basketball career as an intern with the D-League’s Austin Toros.

A year after Silas helped lead the Mavericks' historically efficient offense, Guthrie will join Dallas just before the most condensed offseason in NBA history.

The Mavericks hold the Nos. 18 and 31 overall picks in the draft Wednesday and could be aggressive in adding another top player after the NBA’s trade moratorium lifts Monday. Free agency will start Friday.

Training camps are set to open Dec. 1 for the 72-game regular-season, which will begin Dec. 22.
