Cars from throughout the decades filled downtown Fort Morgan for the 2021 Fall Harvest Car Show - Fort Morgan Times

maknains.blogspot.com

Cars from all decades filled downtown Fort Morgan for the 2021 Fall Harvest Car Show from Friday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 19.

There were numerous vendors and food trucks set up around downtown City Park, and The Whatabouts, a female trio singing songs from the ’60s, were there in the Dahms-Talton Band Shell to provide entertainment for the crowd.

Fall Harvest Car Show Committee Co-Chairs Brad Parker and Dave Cornwell were eager to see participants arrive after a tumultuous year with the COVID-19 pandemic. It was an exciting weekend for the community and 324 cars ended up partaking in the event.

The car show kicked off its festivities Friday evening with cars cruising into town and registering at the gazebo in City Park. The Whatabouts performed from 5 to 8 p.m. and kids lined Main Street to wave at drivers as they partook in the Cruising Like the Old Days event.

Saturday was a full day with cars beginning to register at 8 a.m. for the Show ‘N Shine. It was a great day to be outside with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky.

Downtown Fort Morgan was filled with people enjoying the cars and shopping along Main Street. The Cover Theater offered a free showing of “Dazed and Confused” at noon for people to enjoy, along with concessions.

The Whatabouts took over the stage once again from 5 until 7 p.m. and City Park was filled with people enjoying reminiscing about the ’50s and ’60s.

Then at around 8 p.m. the outdoor movie screen was set up in the park for a showing of “American Graffiti” with Harrison Ford. People set up their lawn chairs and picnic blankets and it was a beautiful evening for an outdoor movie as the old cars rumbled along Main Street in the background.

Cars were back Sunday morning for the optional Sunrise Optimist Poker Cruise, which took them all around Fort Morgan, including the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport. Those that remained in town participated in the Show ‘N Shine event and the day concluded with the giving of awards and prizes at City Park.

“The City of Fort Morgan makes this event possible by providing help and cooperation from the parks, street, electric, and police departments,” said Master of Ceremonies Dan Tacker. “A big thank you to Fort Morgan Mayor Ron Shaver and the City Council. We would also like to thank the Morgan County Commissioners for their support and use of overflow parking, and for working with us to make this event happen.”

Each year, through registration fees, the Fall Harvest Car Show is able to give scholarships to Collision Repair and Auto Technology students at Morgan Community College. Instructors Brad Parker and Tim Grauberger were present to give out the scholarships and this year the car show was able to award $2,000 in scholarships to students.

Benjamin Grydosky from Greeley and J.D. Nelson from Wiggins were both awarded scholarships as Collision Repair students at MCC. Cody Jones from Brush and Matthew Holdren, Ricardo Reyes, Brody Hammer and Guillmero Hernandez all from Fort Morgan were awarded scholarships as Auto Technology students at MCC.

For the 21st year, Larry and Shirley Harris of Larry’s Auto Body sponsored the trophies for the best cars as voted by the participants that are owned by young adults between the ages 16 and 21. The top 4 in the Young Adult Class, in no particular order, were Luka Miller with a 1976 Chevy K10, Kenna Nelson with a 1993 Diihatsu pickup, Sam Christensen with a 1979 Chevy C10 and Colton Phillips with a 2008 Ford Mustang.

There were awards given out to the Top 50 winners, special categories, participants choice, door prizes and more. This year there were also 11 tractors that participated in the car show and were displayed on Saturday.

“Without these car owners coming to Fort Morgan, we wouldn’t have a show,” exclaimed Tacker. “We appreciate each and every one of you.”

It was a full weekend of cars in Fort Morgan and people of all ages were able to enjoy admiring the various vehicles on display.
