Ohio State got the get-right game it was looking for Saturday night with a 59-7 win against overmatched Akron.
True freshman Kyle McCord started at quarterback in place of the injured C.J. Stroud, completing 13-of-18 passes for 319 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before giving way to Jack Miller III in the third quarter. Freshman running back TreVeyon Henderson had nine carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns, doing all of his work before getting a rest midway through the second quarter.
An Ohio State defense much maligned for its lack of quarterback pressure so far this season took advantage of an overwhelmed Akron offensive line for nine sacks. Defensive tackle Haskell Garrett had three sacks on his own.
The Buckeyes get back to Big Ten play next Saturday at Rutgers.
