A Maryland man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing a woman in the buttock with a syringe filled with his semen — a sickening attack that was caught on a grocery store video.

Thomas Bryon Stemen, 52, was seen attacking Katie Peters in February 2020 at Christopher’s Fine Foods in Churchton, a community in Anne Arundel County, according to Fox 5 DC.

Stemen, who had recently moved from Ohio and had six prior convictions from 1986 to 1996, pleaded guilty to the crime in June 2020, the news outlet reported.

The victim called police on Feb. 18, 2020, to report the assault, which occurred when she was returning her grocery cart at the store. She said a white man bumped into her and she felt a sting in her buttock.

When she asked the man if he burned her with a cigarette, he reportedly said, “Yeah, it felt like a bee sting, didn’t it?”

When she returned home, she noticed a small red spot and what appeared to be a puncture wound — and also felt a wet substance on her pants, officials said.

Katie Peters initially thought her assailant burnt her with a cigarette.

Responding Anne Arundel County cops reviewed the surveillance video, which showed a white man walking up behind the victim, pulling something out of his pocket and pushing it against her.

The following day, the victim observed that she had a large round red area on her buttock and sought treatment at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Police released the footage, which also showed the same man lunging at two other females, to the media in efforts to track down the assailant. Stemen was arrested after police received tips.

Police obtained a search warrant for his home and vehicle, in which officers located a large syringe in the driver’s door that contained an unknown liquid.

“There were other syringes found in the defendant’s residence, including one syringe containing an unknown substance,” the county said on its website. “Also recovered at the home was the same sweatshirt, pants and shoes that the defendant was seen wearing on the surveillance video.”

Police also got a search warrant for Stemen’s DNA, which matched the semen found in the car.

Stemen entered a so-called Alford plea to one count of felony first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault on June 16, 2020. Under the plea, he maintains his innocence but acknowledges the state has evidence that would likely convict him if his case went to trial.

He received five years of supervised probation and was ordered to undergo a substance abuse and a mental health evaluation.

Stemen also pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for his contact with a 17-year-old girl who was not harmed, officials said.

“The defendant’s actions were truly horrific,” said State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess. “He intentionally went out into our community with the goal of assaulting unsuspecting women.

“With this sentence, he will removed from our community for a long time. I am thankful for the citizens who identified him from video released by law enforcement and that the survivors are able to move forward after this senseless assault,” she added.
