Goose continued their Dripfield Summer Tour 9,000 above sea level with two nights at the Dillon Amphitheater in Dillon, Colo. on Tuesday and Wednesday. The two-night stand included plenty of tracks off of their latest album and tour namesake, as well as a second night full of covers – including the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo.”
Goose kicked the first night off at the Dillon Amphitheater on Aug. 16 with “Bob Don” before jumping into “Time to Flee.” Next up was “Indian River” – a track off their first studio effort Moon Cabin. The band followed up with “SOS,” which segued into the fast and funky “(dawn),” which saw effortlessly fast playing from guitarist Rick Mitarotonda. Goose then brought out “The Labyrinth” before moving into a heavily jammed “Hot Tea” to close out the first set.
The second set was equally high in terms of energy, beginning with “Flodown.” The five-piece then moved into “Drive,” which transitioned from funky to ambient to shreddy before gradually transforming into “A Western Sun.” Goose took “The Western Sun” into a spacey “Moby,” complemented by keyboardist and guitarist Peter Anspach’s sonic layers. “Moby” found its way into “Into the Myst” before the band closed out the second set with “Pancakes.” Goose then returned to the stage for an encore of “Doobie Song,” much to the audience’s delight.
Goose’s second night at Dillon Amphitheater began with “California Magic” before the band performed the first cover of their two-night stand – Wes Montgomery’s “Switchin’.” Goose then served a jammed-out rendition of “Borne” that melted into “Dr. Darkness.” To close out the first set, the band kicked into a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” which saw roars of applause from the audience.
The second set of the night opened with “Honeybee,” a cut off the band’s latest album Dripfield. Goose followed up with the fan favorite “Wysteria Lane” before performing their debut cover of Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life.” The Connecticut ensemble then gave the audience some time to breathe with “Rosewood Heart” before going into a funky “Rockdale.” Goose then took the audience swimming with “Your Ocean” before closing out the second set with “Madhuvan.” The band took the stage once more for an encore of “Turned Clouds.”
Goose’s Dripfield Summer Tour continues tonight with a sold-out performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. Tickets to upcoming shows are still available for purchase here.
