MINNEAPOLIS -- The Detroit Tigers managed just four singles, capping a strikeout-filled series with a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon at Target Field.
The Tigers (42-64) went 2-5 on a weeklong road trip that straddled the MLB trade deadline.
Former Tigers reliever Michael Fulmer, traded across the stadium to the Twins, pitched a scoreless sixth inning in his Minnesota debut.
The Tigers struck out 14 times on Wednesday and 41 times in the three-game series. Eric Haase (four strikeouts) and Jonathan Schoop (three strikeouts) went down in each one of their plate appearances.
The Tigers’ only run in the fifth inning was aided by Twins starter Joe Ryan, who hit two batters. Willi Castro came home to score on Riley Greene’s two-out RBI single.
Tigers starter Tyler Alexander gave up a couple of runs in five innings of work. Relievers Jose Cisnero and Derek Law, a former Twins pitcher, gave up a run apiece.
The Tigers announced before the game that starting pitcher Tarik Skubal would be placed on the injured list. Additionally, outfielder Daz Cameron was recalled from Triple-A Toledo, although he did not play in Wednesday’s game.
