Yankees' outfield chase filled with doubts and competition - New York Post

The Yankees like free agent Cody Bellinger but some Yankee people are worried about his hard-hit rate even after his brilliant season.

He seems like the perfect fit as an excellent center fielder who bats left-handed and hit .306 after a couple of rough injury years.

But some analytics apparently work against him (my thought: hard-hit rate favors guys who whiff, aka Joey Gallo, not Bellinger, who hit .279 with two strikes by putting the ball in play).

The Yankees are of course also interested in Juan Soto.

The Yankees also have inquired about Korean two-way center fielder Jung-Hoo Lee, who’s only 24. But he has 20 teams after him.

Anthony Rizzo, who slumped and then rested after suffering a concussion after a great start early last year, is said to be doing “great” by agent Ryan Gleichowski.

The Yankees have been particular about rotation targets, looking at Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jordan Montgomery but not some others.

The Yankees are, however, interested in Frankie Montas.

Brad Ausmus as new Yankees bench coach and John Gibbons as Mets bench coach are good calls.

That job should go to someone with managerial experience, not an apprentice type.

Carlos Mendoza originally proposed Willie Randolph, and there’s a good chance Randolph gets offered a real Mets role.
