SARAH HOWARD: Event-filled week a success for senior center - Manistee News Advocate

maknains.blogspot.com

Happy Saturday! I hope you enjoyed your week and are able to relax a little this weekend. I am excited to say we had another fun, successful annual senior picnic. We had a beautiful day and some wonderful music which everyone really enjoyed. Thank you to the Lighthouse Trio, it sounded like we were in the Caribbean listening to the steel drums. Thank you to everyone for the delicious dishes you brought to pass. A huge thank you to the master griller BJ Fortin -- you did a great job and kept the fires burning, even though it was pretty hot.

Another mystery trip is in the books. Everyone seemed to have a great time and enjoyed themselves. We started the day with a stop at MacBeth & Co. in Onekama. The shop is so lovely, and they have things that you don't find just anywhere. The owner, Beth, was so kind. She gave everyone a beautiful little gift for stopping in. Thank you, Beth, for the wonderful visit. Everyone loved the stop.

Then we stopped at Patina, which is a cute new shop in Onekama. The shop has old, new and revamped stuff which is always fun to check out. Then we went to Wee Bee Jammin' which is such a cute shop with delicious jams, jellies and other great treats.

Then off to lunch in Beulah. I had L'Chayim Delicatessen make sandwiches, sides, cookies and bottles of water for everyone. Their staff even walked all of the food down to the pavilion on Crystal Lake. If you are ever in downtown Beulah or Frankfort this is one of the best stops ever. You won't be disappointed.

We relaxed and ate and still had a little time to sit by the water, shop or visit then we loaded up for another stop. We went to Bee Dazzled which is a beautiful bee farm. Their gardens are amazing, and the shop is so quaint. Soaps, candles and other cute things. Definitely worth the stop.

Then we stopped at St. Ambrose Cellars for a drink and more visiting. It is such a beautiful place and very relaxing. They really made some changes to keep up with COVID. Outdoor seating is all over which was very nice. People had all kinds of drinks from soda pop, wines, meads, beers and now they even have frozen drinks that are amazing. Thank you to all of the staff at St. Ambrose Cellars. You really made our trip with your smiles. Our last stop was to the new ice cream shop in Manistee, Downtown Delights. It is in the old senior center which I haven't been to since we left and I was delighted to see how they are using the space. Everyone had a delicious treat from huge waffle cones, sundaes and malts. I tried the salted caramel truffle ice cream which was delicious. Thank you Tracy for opening your doors to all of us, you all rocked!

I have another mystery trip scheduled for the end of September, if you want to give something new a try.

Friday we had a wonderful group of volunteers that had a jewelry and handbag sale. It was so wonderful. Thank you to everyone who donated such lovely things for this sale. It is amazing what people do to help our seniors.

This week we have all of our regular programs and activities and a couple of different things. Monday the BVCC Dental Van will be in our parking lot at the Wagoner Community Center. They will be offering free oral cancer screenings, and other dental info. No appointments are necessary. On Thursday we have the Crazy Bubble Lady heading in before lunch. She is amazing, she makes huge bubbles and does all kinds of fun things happen when she is here. We also have a painting class with Joann on Friday. If you have wanted to try something new, give us a call and get on the list.

I hope you are getting ready for Wheelin' & Dealin' with Johnny O. This is one activity that everyone can come to and you will have so much fun. If you want a good belly laugh, call and sign up. You will be glad you did.

I hope you have a wonderful week and remember to try something new!
