Joe Biden announced Tuesday his running mate in the 2020 presidential election would be California Sen. Kamala Harris.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is "filled with joy" at his decision.
She tweeted, "Filled with joy that Sen. Kamala Harris is our Vice Presidential nominee! This is a historic moment, and I know that her leadership, experience and character will help move our country forward when she and Joe Biden take back the White House!"
Klobuchar announced her 2020 presidential campaign run on Feb. 10, 2019.
She suspended her campaign on March 2, the day before Super Tuesday. She immediately endorsed Biden for president.
During a debate earlier this year, Biden said he was committed to having a woman as his potential running mate. Klobuchar was one of the names floating around, along with Harris.
"Kamala is a good friend and incredibly strong public servant," Klobuchar said Tuesday following Biden's announcement. "Sometimes campaigns can tear friendships apart but we grew closer — and I know she has what it takes to lead side-by-side with Joe Biden."
If elected, Harris would become the country's first female, first Black and first Asian American vice president.
