Plus, the track is her best showing on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay in 20 years.

Toni Braxton collects her ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs airplay chart as “Do It” jumps 3-1 to lead the list dated Aug. 15. The single, released through Island/Republic Records, ascends with a 13% burst in plays at the format in the week ending Aug. 9.

As the R&B veteran returns to the summit, here’s a look at her No. 1 collection on Adult R&B Songs.

Title, Artist (if other than Toni Braxton), Weeks at No. 1, Date Reached No. 1
“Another Sad Love Song,” four, Sept. 18, 1993
“Breathe Again,” two, Nov. 20, 1993
“Seven Whole Days,” six, Feb. 5, 1994
“You Mean The World to Me,” seven, May 7, 1994
“You’re Makin’ Me High / Let It Flow,” 13, June 22, 1996
“Just Be a Man About It,” two, Sept. 9, 2000
“Hurt You,” with Babyface, four, Dec. 14, 2013
“Long As I Live,” five, June 9, 2018
“Do It,” one (to date), Aug. 15, 2020

With a ninth leader, Braxton maintains her second-place status among artists with the most No. 1s on the chart, but now comes within two of current champ Alicia Keys. She extends her lead above three acts in a tie for third place – R. Kelly, Maxwell and Charlie Wilson – each with seven.

"It feels incredible to have “Do It" reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Chart (my ninth No. 1)!,” Braxton tells Billboard. “I’m thankful to my amazing fans and Adult R&B radio for always supporting me.”

That relationship has been close since Braxton’s arrival on the scene. “Another Sad Love Song,” the first single from her debut, eponymous album, inaugurated the Adult R&B Songs chart for its first edition on Sept. 18, 1993. Thus, as she also leads the latest list, Braxton spans her career stretch of Adult R&B No. 1s to 26 years and 11 months.

Plus, as “Do It” follows “Long As I Live” to the summit, Braxton posts her first pair of consecutive chart-toppers on the airplay ranking since she strung “Another Sad Love Song,” “Breathe Again” and “Seven Whole Days” together from her debut run in 1993-1994.

Notably, Braxton earns her sixth leader with writing contributions from longtime collaborator and her self-described “musical husband” Babyface. In addition to “Do It,” the legendary writer helped pen “Another Sad Love Song,” “Breathe Again,” “You Mean The World To Me,” “Let It Flow,” and the pair’s duet “Hurt You.”

Elsewhere, “Do It” lifts 16-12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as it improves 24% in audience impressions to 10.5 million in the week ending Aug. 9. The four-spot chart jump gives the diva her highest showing on the list in just shy of 20 years, since “Just Be a Man About It” reigned for two weeks in September 2000.

“Do It” will appear on Braxton’s forthcoming studio album, Spell My Name, set for release on Aug. 28.
