The Boyd Yellowjackets could not find the path to victory against the Jacksboro Tigers Friday.
With a sophomore quarterback getting his first start under center, Boyd’s offense struggled, as the Tigers defeated the Yellowjackets 28-14.
Jacksboro capitalized on a strong wave of offensive momentum early, jumping ahead of Boyd with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Lando Belcher to Jett Davenport.
The home team Tigers followed with rushing scores by Domanik Hammond and Kareem Howard in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead.
Seconds before halftime, Boyd found the end zone on a 6-yard rush by Callan Furgerson.
The Yellowjackets cut Jacksboro’s lead to seven as Furgerson found his way back across the goal line in the third quarter with a 56-yard reception from quarterback Braden McIntire.
McIntire threw four interceptions in the game, matching Jacksboro’s Belcher. The Yellowjackets’ signal caller was 13-for-35 for 223 yards.
Furgerson led Boyd in rushing with 42 yards on 16 carries. He also caught four passes for 72 yards.
Jacksboro capped the win off with a 3-yard rushing score by Cody Frie late in the fourth.
Boyd’s Mason Turner led the Yellowjackets’ receivers with seven receptions for 129 yards.
Boyd (0-2) returns to Yellowjacket Stadium for a Week 3 contest against Tolar 7:30 p.m. Friday.
