While the USC head coaching search exists in a tenuous and uncertain position heading into the Trojans’ Saturday night game against BYU, other Pac-12 teams seem to be settling on their head coaches for 2022.

Arizona State coach Herm Edwards, in spite of an ongoing NCAA investigation about COVID-19 recruiting violations, is speaking boldly about being the Sun Devils’ coach next year. Whether he thinks that’s true or not, he is reacting in an unambiguous way. We’ll see if the NCAA renders his words meaningless. Stay tuned on that front. Meanwhile, another Pac-12 school has turned an interim coach into a permanent one.

Jake Dickert, the defensive coordinator at Washington State — who beat Herm Edwards and Arizona State like a drum earlier this fall — will sign a deal to become the Cougars’ permanent head coach, according to reports:

There is no drama here. As soon as Dickert beat Washington in the Apple Cup, industry insiders widely felt Dickert would be retained.

One has to admit Dickert did his best to earn the job. He led a second-half surge by the Cougars which almost led them to the Pac-12 Championship Game. Had Oregon State beaten Oregon on Saturday — the Beavers lost to the Ducks — Wazzu would have faced Utah for the Pac-12 title.
