CHERRY HILL, NJ — Five Cherry Hill residents will likely be interviewed Tuesday in advance of one being chosen as the township's next public school board member, school board documents indicate.
The school board had announced its search for someone to fill the vacant position earlier this month, according to an advertisement that indicated the need to fill the school board vacancy.
Applications were due July 18 and then on July 20, the school board met in an executive session to decide which candidates to interview, according to the advertisement.
Based on a review of school board documents, the candidates that will likely be interviewed on Tuesday are alphabetically listed below:
- Yemele Ayala
- Renee Cherfane
- Thomas Leisse
- Sunny Reed
- Gina Winters
Candidates had to be several criteria, including being a United States citizen who is at least 18 years old, can read and write, being a resident of Cherry Hill for at least 1 year and being registered to vote within the Cherry Hill School District.
After the interviews are held, the school board will vote on who should fill the position, according to the advertisement.
Then on Aug. 9, the successful candidate will be sworn in, appointed and introduced, according to the advertisement that indicated the need to fill a school board vacancy, according to the advertisement.
Whoever is chosen will fill the school board's vacant seat will hold that position until Jan. 3, the advertisement said.
The school board has previously filled school board vacancies via processes other than elections, most recently in 2019 and 2021.
