The Houston Dash, in its previous six years in the National Women's Soccer League, had never made the playoffs. Now, after Year 7, Houston has a champion.
The Dash got goals from Sophie Schmidt and Shea Groom to beat the Chicago Red Stars 2-0 in the championship game of the NWSL's Challenge Cup on Sunday in Sandy, Utah.

And, the Dash's players proved they can celebrate like champions as their Instagram pages filled with images of them chugging Budweisers both out of the bottle and out of the NWSL trophy.
There also was plenty of evidence on Twitter of the raucous postgame celebration.
The NWSL was the first team sport in the country to return since the onset of the pandemic, and it came back with an eight-team, month-long tournament with players quarantined in a bubble.
Dash star Rachel Daly, who plays for England's national team, scored three goals in the tournament and was named the Challenge Cup's most valuable player.
