Rockets' James Harden finding foul-filled bubble - Houston Chronicle

maknains.blogspot.com

Through the first three games of the restart, Rockets guard James Harden has been the most foul-prone player in the Orlando games, committing five personal fouls in each game.

The Rockets have committed 27 personal fouls per game, 5.4 more than they had been before the season was stopped in March, and have allowed 30 free throws, 6.7 more per game than they had in the season’s first 64 games.

Tuesday’s game to the Trail Blazers was the first that Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni had to alter his rotation because of fouls on Harden, sitting him with five minutes left in the third quarter with five fouls.

“Last night got me in trouble because I couldn’t be as aggressive as I wanted,” Harden said. “There some questionable ones, but some I have to be more smart about. I take the blame for that, as far as putting myself in positions to foul. I have to do a better job as far as positions.”

Fouls are up throughout the league, a trend D’Antoni said is not unexpected.

“I think a lot of that is due to tired legs and not just being sharp,” D’Antoni said. “If you watch some of the preseason games or early games in the season, I think it’s kind of uneven and a lot of fouls. It takes a little while for players to adjust. That will keep going down hopefully as we got more games and get ready for the playoffs. That’s been a problem. We’ve been in foul trouble every night.”
