After Getting Rare Win Over Blues, Ducks Look to Do It Again Today - BlueJackets.com

The Ducks wiped out some regretful history with a win over the Blues on Friday night, and this afternoon they'll try and do it again in a matinee battle at Enterprise Center.

Anaheim's 4-1 victory was its first over St. Louis since (remarkably) Nov. 16, 2019, and it was also the team's first visit to Enterprise Center since December of that year. With the Ducks' return to that arena came the return of John Gibson after missing two weeks with a lower body injury, and the All-Star net minder did not disappoint.

Gibson had 33 saves in shutting out a strong Blues team for nearly the first 2 1/2 periods of the game. Only a Ryan O'Reilly goal at 10:50 of the third spoiled the shutout bid, and the Ducks responded with consecutive empty netters from Derek Grant and Rickard Rakell.

"I'm not surprised by Gibby's performance. He's a competitor, and he's got super high standards," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said yesterday. "It's always interesting with Gibby -- opponents change, but his standards never changed. St. Louis meant business right off the bat. They're in a real fight here, and they're a very desperate team, and Gibby showed why he's one of the best goalies in the game."

It's expect Gibson will be in net again as the Ducks look for the sweep of the two-game series this afternoon. It's a rare 2 p.m. PT puck drop time, the fourth stanza (and second day game) of a five-game road trip.

A scare for the Ducks came early in the game when 18-year-old defenseman Jamie Drysdale took a hit to the head and left the game for good. But Eakins today reported cautiously good news after Drysdale took part in practice.

"I spoke to him before practice started, and he seemed fine and got through practice well," Eakins said. "I'll swing back with our medical guys and see what their take is. Anytime you see a hit like that, we're obviously gonna be very cautious with it."

The Blues have surprisingly lost six in a row at home, though last night was just their third home game of the month of March. They're still holding onto the fourth spot in the Honda West division, two points ahead of the Coyotes.
