CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Deputy Highways Commissioner Jimmy Wriston says the Division of Highways plans to have every pothole filled by Memorial Day.

Speaking in front of the state Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday, Wriston addressed the ambitious plan.

“We are going to do everything in our power to have every pothole patched by Memorial Day. That’s a lot of work, it has never been attempted before,” Wriston said.

Memorial Day falls on May 31 in 2021. He said if the goal fell short of that date, that motorists would still be able to tell a difference on the roads.

“We feel like we have changed the culture in our organization to the point where we are up for this challenge and we’re going to do our level best. That is our goal,” Wriston said.

Senator Bob Beach (D – Monongalia, 13) had a special request for Wriston while questioning plans.

“Could I ask you to fix the pothole at mile marker 144 on Interstate 79? That is the number one complaint I get,” Beach said.

Crews were already out in Kanawha County on Tuesday, closing off two lanes on Interstate-64 to fill potholes.
