SANILAC COUNTY, MI - A 50-year-old Snover man died Sunday morning after his car crashed into a Sanilac County ditch, police said.
Deputies with the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported of an overturned car shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday, March 28 on Shabonna Road near Merriman Road in Wheatland Township, approximately five miles west of Deckerville.
An investigation has determined that the man was headed west on Shabbona Road when his vehicle exited the roadway and entered a ditch on the north side of the road, according to a Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The vehicle rolled over and landed upside down in the ditch, which was filled with water, police said. The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Airbags did not deploy inside the vehicle, police said, and it is unclear at this time if a seat belt was used by the man.
The fatal crash is under further investigation.
Deputies received assistance at the crash scene from Sanilac Emergency Medical Services, as well as the Deckerville and Argyle fire departments.
