I felt compelled to write a response to Pat Johnston’s letter. Its vitriolic and hate-filled words shocked and disgusted me. They stopped my heart.
Oh, I agree with what Pat said about Donald Trump. I often found President Trump’s rhetoric and behavior repugnant and reprehensible. I concede that many Trump supporters’ words, thoughts and actions were too extreme. They deserve to be punished for any crimes they may have committed. But, I am not what Pat says I am.
I am not a closet racist, a white supremacist, nor a Nazi-lover. Neither am I a fallen Christian with a weak mind, riddled with demons. I pray constantly and consistently for peace, prosperity, and justice for everyone. I pray for the souls of the mothers who have aborted their babies.
I pray for mutual respect, peaceful resolution and justice for those who encounter law enforcement and for law enforcement who lay their lives on the line. I pray our borders are strong enough to keep out drug and sex traffickers and vicious young men like MS13.
I pray for the freedom to practice the tenants of my Christian faith without reprisals or interference from the government of courts.
I pray for energy independence so that no more of our sons’ and daughters’ lives are lost on foreign soil protecting oil and big business interests and for economic prosperity. Both of which were promised by the Keystone Pipeline project.
I pray for the right to say what I think without fear of my speech being cancelled out or my life, as I know it, being erased.
I pray for Pat Johnston, who seemingly has forgotten to love her neighbor as herself.
