(March 31, 2022) If last season was a rebuilding year for the softball team, coach Chris Maury is hoping this is the year the Whalers get back above .500.
“Last year we only had one kid coming in that really had strong varsity experience,” he said. “That’s why we looked at last year as a rebuilding year. This year we’ve got 10 kids coming back that saw varsity game experience last year.”
The team was on the verge of .500 last spring. It finished the season 6-7, going 3-4 against opponents in the Cape & Islands League.
“We’re heavy on the senior level this year,” Maury said. “Missing the 2019 season (to COVID-19) was tough because it took a lot of students who would have played at the varsity level.”
