GLOUCESTER — Taylor’s Do It Center is set to hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for its newest location.
The newest Center, which is in Gloucester Point, located at 1767 George Washington Memorial Hwy. (Route 17), marks the twelfth store in the locally- and family-owned hardware and building supply retailer.
Founded in 1927, the company was originally known as Fuel, Feed and Building Supplies. It was later expanded beyond its original location in 1965 by one of the founders’ sons. In 1990, the Center changed its buying affiliation from True Value to Do It Best Corp., which boasts itself as a member-owned hardware cooperative that supplies 3,800 independent hardware and building supply retailers nationwide.
It is now managed by its fourth generation of family members and has locations scattered throughout Hampton Roads, Moyock (N.C.), and Richmond.
“We are very excited about this opportunity for growth in a new market. As a family-owned business with over 95 years of history in Hampton Roads, we have always been integrally involved in the neighborhoods we serve,” said Taylor’s Do It Center Communications Manager Meg Taylor in an email to WYDaily. “We look forward to bringing that level of service to the Gloucester Point community.”
The grand opening event and ribbon cutting ceremony for its Gloucester Point location will take place this Saturday (March 5) starting at 8 a.m. with the ribbon cutting ceremony slated to take place at 10 a.m. The entire event is expected to conclude at 1 p.m.
There will be several vendors and demonstrations on hand throughout the day including STIHL, Scotts, as well as live demonstrations from Big Green Egg and Traeger.
According to the event’s website, the Center will be offering the following deals and giveaways throughout the event:
- Gift bags for the first 100 customers
- First 50 customers with a $20 or more purchase will receive a free five gallon bucket
- Customers who sign up with the Center’s Best Rewards loyalty program will receive 20 percent off their entire purchase plus have a chance to win a Weber SmokeFire pellet grill
- Special savings on 3M Filtrete Allergen Filters, hardwood mulch, Scotts Top Soil, and Miracle-Gro garden soil
- An opportunity to win a $100 American Express gift card, courtesy of Wild Birds Unlimited
