Arissa Henderson and Mariah Ramirez each turned in shutdown pitching performances Saturday to help Weber State finish Cal State Fullerton’s Judi Garman Classic with a 3-2 record.

Weber State is now a scintillating 16-4 on the season. The Wildcats will stay in California, going from Fullerton to Riverside for a Tuesday night matchup at Cal Baptist before heading to San Diego for tournament games against San Diego State, CSUN and San Diego from March 10-12 for the final nonconference tournament of the schedule.

WSU 3, SEATTLE 0

After Henderson pitched a one-hit game as WSU claimed a 2-1 win over Texas A&M on Friday, she upped the ante Saturday afternoon against Seattle.

Henderson threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout in the circle — giving her two wins on the weekend with a combined three hits allowed — struck out seven, walked none and faced just one batter over the minimum.

At the plate, Henderson smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning to account for all of WSU’s offensive output after Chloe Camarero singled and Faith Hoe reached by error.

WSU 4, PENN 1

Ramirez kept the good times going in the circle Saturday night, giving up one run in the seventh of an otherwise dominant complete-game win, striking out 10 and walking none while allowing six hits.

Henderson and Ramirez thus combined to allow one run on eight hits, striking out 17 and walking zero through 14 innings Saturday.

WSU took a 2-0 lead in the third with sacrifice flies from Camarero and Hoe.

Mika Chong singled in Hoe and Katelyn Whiting in the sixth for a pair of insurance runs.

CSF 8, WSU 5

Henderson was seemingly on her way to another win, crushing hosts Cal State Fullerton by allowing just two hits through four innings as Weber State went up 4-0 in part because she hit another homer at the plate, a two-run shot in the second.

Lauren Hoe scored on an error in the second, and McKell McCuiston hit a solo homer in the third for WSU’s lead.

But Henderson ran into trouble in the fifth and was replaced by Ramirez, who hit a batter with the bases loaded to push across a run but otherwise got groundouts to get out of the jam with WSU still leading 4-1.

But Fullerton strung together a load of hits in the sixth that Ramirez, Amanda Sink and Brooke Hatfield couldn’t stop. The Titans scored seven runs in the frame to claim the win.
