Seahawks country … let's cry.
Russell Wilson made his return to Seattle on "Monday Night Football," this time as a member of the Broncos. After 10 seasons with the Seahawks, Wilson was traded this offseason to Denver, this after an offseason of drama in 2021 that nearly left him traded once before.
Somewhat surprisingly, "The 12th Man" wasn't very appreciative of Wilson's return, to Seattle didn't exactly make good on Tyler Lockett's request to welcome back the passer with open arms.
Wilson was greeted by vociferous, cascading boos from the Lumen Field crowd when he took the field for pre-game warmups on Monday night, with Seahawks fans in attendance not giving him the warm welcome he potentially deserved.

On the "Manningcast," Peyton and Eli Manning were visibly confused by the reaction that Wilson got when he took his first snap on offense.

In 2021, a seeming rift between Wilson and the organization formed, with drama surrounding his lack of a top offensive line and his ability to be in on personnel discussions at the forefront of the schism.
After a down year, a finger injury and mitigating returns from the Seahawks offense, Wilson was traded for a hefty package of picks this past offseason, and later signed a big-money extension with the Broncos.
Lockett, the stalwart Seahawks wide receiver, said that it hurt to lose Wilson this offseason, but understood that it was all part of the business of football, and urged Seahawks fans to give the former passer a warm welcome.
You never want to see people leave, but you've got to understand that everybody has to do what's best for them, and that's what you have to be able to understand about this life is you have to cheer people on. You can't get mad that people go to another team and this, this and this. We're fans, right? So we learn it the hard way.
But at the end of the day, you've got to be able to separate the man from the player and you've got to understand that everybody's trying to do what's best for them and all you can do is hope that they win and cheer for them to win. So that's really how I feel about it. I think that Seattle should cheer him on for everything that he's done — help bring a Super Bowl to this community, all that different type of stuff. He's an amazing guy.
All that to say: It certainly seems a little bizarre to boo a former franchise quarterback who helped guide the team to its most prominent era of success.
A friendly reminder to Seattle and its fans: Keep your words soft and sweet, in case you have to eat them later.
