More than 40 local makers, creators and artists will display their goods — from home decor to cuisine, jewelry to personal care — during the Makers Fair on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Hammer & Stitch Brewing Co. in Northwest Portland’s Slabtown.

The free event from noon to 6 p.m. spills out of Hammer & Stitch brewery at 2377 N.W. Wilson St. into the block between Northwest 23rd and 24th avenues.

The family friendly fair with live music and food carts is organized by Assemblage (formerly Makers Union PDX), a volunteer group that has hosted pop-up shops and marketplaces to make it easy to buy directly from Oregon crafters.

More than 40 booths of locally made products such as Niyyah Handcrafted soaps, candles and skincare products will be at Assemblage's Makers Fair Oct. 8 at Hammer & Stitch Brewing Co. in Northwest Portland’s Slabtown.

“When local makers sell their wares to local clients, the economic benefits stay in the local economy and we can decide which future we really want to build,” says Jubal Prevatte of CarpentryPDX and one of the founders of Assemblage PDX.

About half of the participants represent Black, Indigenous makers of color or LGBTQ+ makers, event organizers say.

Also on display will be wooden home goods from Spalted Burl, accessories by Golden Age, tasty apothecary blends from Sasquatch Botanicals plus Filipino goods and sweets from Shop Halo Halo among many others, say organizers.

Food vendors such as Pidgin Hole’s Asian Fusion and Maruka Loka Antojitos Mexican street fare as well as Freeland Spirits and Hip Chicks Do Wine will be serving during the block party-like event.
