“The Conjuring” universe is getting a third movie.
But instead of the ghosts of witches and old men, “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” is dealing directly with demonic possession.
The film’s official Wikipedia page describes the film as being based on the real-life trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a 1981 case in which a young man claimed to have killed his landlord after becoming possessed by a demon.
The main characters of the horror franchise—Ed and Lorraine Warren (as portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga)—were heavily involved in the case, as they were the ones who launched a paranormal investigation that supposedly led to Johnson’s possession.
According to a statement released by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema, “’The Devil Made Me Do It’ reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
“One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.”
The cast of the film lists Ruairi O’Connor (“The Spanish Princess”) in the role of Johnson while “Haunting of Hill House” alum, Julian Hilliard, plays the young boy whose soul Ed and Lorraine are trying to save.
Sterling Jerins also returns as the daughter of Ed and Lorraine and esteemed Australian actor, John Noble (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), is in the film as a currently undisclosed character.
“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” will be released on June 4, 2021. You can check out the trailer for the film right here.
