CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It is National Volunteer Week, and the Wyoming Rescue Mission is a Casper non-profit that wouldn’t be the same without its volunteers.
It has over 950 active volunteers. Last year, over 11,200 volunteer hours were provided there.
“It’s just staggering how many people want to help, and it’s beautiful how many people want to help, and we appreciate it so much,” Jenny Stedillie, Wyoming Rescue Mission’s marketing manager. “We staff, we could not do it without our volunteers.”
Stedillie said there is no “typical volunteer” either. “The volunteer needs range from serving food, prepping food, to administrative needs, to lawn care, to building and fixing things and everywhere in between,” said Stedillie.
Lisa Kay Burridge is one of those Wyoming Rescue Mission volunteers, and she’s volunteered there for about a year and helps every Sunday to make brunch.
“To me, it’s just very important to give and to be able to help and to serve,” said Kay Burridge. “And to be a volunteer comes in many different forms of service, and I think to give of one’s self and of one’s time is just very, very important.”
Time is money as the saying goes, and every volunteer hour spent at the Wyoming Rescue Mission matters to those who live and work there.
“You might think, ‘Well, I’m on only one person. What can I do?,’” said Stedillie. “You have no idea what you can do.”
