MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI – Three days of basketball, activities, food, music and shopping will take over a Muskegon Heights park this weekend.

The jam-packed community event and three-on-three basketball tournament is taking place June 25-27 at Mona Lake Park, 347 Lakeshore Boulevard. The weekend activities kick off Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

“It’s not just based on basketball. It is to continue get our community out enjoying life, enjoying being around each other,” said Ronald Jenkins, an event organizer and an owner of the West Michigan Lake Hawks basketball team.

Teams up to five people or individuals can register for the basketball tournament in five different age brackets. It costs $40 a person to compete.

Food and merchandise vendors will also be at the park all three days, as well as the opportunity to play soccer, football and baseball.

“It’s going to be a fun-filled weekend of festivities,” said Jenkins.

The event follows the community Juneteenth celebration held last weekend at Mona Lake Park.

The city of Muskegon Heights, Lake Hawks in Flight Inc., Muskegon Heights Police Department and GUNS (Gaining Unity through Non-Violent Solutions) partnered to host the event.

Jenkins said information from law enforcement on Silent Observer and the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit will be available throughout the weekend.

“Those are the different avenues that we wanted to take to help our community and keep our community safer,” Jenkins said.
