Lynx do it all wrong in 105-89 loss to Chicago - TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve did not mince words Tuesday night.

“Give Chicago credit,” she said. “They kicked our (rear).”

Sylvia Fowles called it one of the most difficult losses of her seven years in Minnesota.

“I don’t think we did anything that we were supposed to do number-wise,” she said.

No one could argue.

In their 105-89 victory, the Sky established season highs against the Lynx for points, points in a quarter (39), field goals (40) and shooting percentage (57.1). Chicago’s 58 first-half points and dozen 3-pointers in the game tied the most allowed by the Lynx this season.

Minnesota, which averages 16.3 turnovers a game, third-worst in the WNBA, turned the ball over 20 times. A veteran Chicago team made the Lynx pay, scoring 32 points off Minnesota miscues.

“The transition points that they had were absolutely ridiculous,” Napheesa Collier said. “Our live-ball turnovers led to that, and then we had people not getting back. They just ate off those tonight.”

Allie Quigley led six Sky (5-7) players in double figures with a season-high 23 points. Stefanie Dolson added a season-best 17, and Courtney Vandersloot had 10 points and 13 assists in becoming the fourth player in league history to surpass 2,000 helpers. The Sky had 32 assists on 40 made baskets.

Quigley made back-to-back 3-pointers as part of a 12-2 run in the third quarter for a 78-57 Chicago lead.

“Lack of communication, not getting back, not getting no screens, not getting boards, not getting shots, getting turnovers. It was a cluster of things that was happening in the third,” Fowles said.

The Sky’s biggest lead was 27.

Minnesota, which shot 45.7 percent from the field, attempted a season-low 14 3-pointers, making five. Collier tied a career-high with 27 points — 23 in the first half — and Sylvia Fowles added 14 points and nine rebounds. Both sat most of the fourth quarter.

Minnesota (4-6) played with just nine players as forward Natalie Achonwa (right knee) and guard Aerial Powers (thumb), who were both hurt in Saturday’s win, joined forward Jessica Shepard (groin) on the list of injured players out indefinitely. Shepard missed her second straight game due to injury.

Earlier Tuesday, the Lynx signed forward Cierra Burdick, a good passer and strong rebounder who played minimal minutes in four games for Phoenix earlier this season and was with Las Vegas last year. She finished with six points in just under 8 minutes.
