WOODBURY, MN — A suspect is in custody Saturday after police were called to a Woodbury home where they discovered a woman dead and several children inside.
Just before 3:45 p.m. Friday, authorities received a 911 call from a woman who said a man called her and told her he had killed another woman inside a Woodbury home. In response, Woodbury police were dispatched to the house, located in the 7500 block of Steepleview Road.
When police arrived at the house, they attempted to call its occupants but received no response. Meanwhile, officers and a SWAT team assembled outside the home and tried to call out anyone inside the house.
Several children of varying ages came out as requested, according to police. When asked, the kids reportedly told police both the male suspect and the victim had left the house earlier that day.
Ultimately, SWAT team members entered the house and discovered a woman dead inside. The kids later told police they did not know she was there, authorities said.
On Saturday, police said they arrested 39-year-old McKinley Phillips in connection with the woman's death. Phillips was taken into custody without incident.
The children found inside the home were taken to a safe location to be cared for, police said.
Police did not release the victim's name.
