Although the days this week have continued to be exceptionally warm, the evening and overnight temperatures have remained cool. Surprisingly, there was a record low temperature early on Wednesday. Meteorologist Rachel Gutierrez of The National Weather Service in State College shared that the record-breaking temperature dropped down to 68 degrees on Wednesday.
“It’s confusing because it’s not the highest, it’s the warmest low temp for the day,” She said. “That was right before dawn.”
As for this weekend, there are chances of passing thunderstorms and rain this weekend during much anticipated outdoor events, such as the Billtown Blues Festival and Saturday’s Williamsport Soap Box Derby. However, with the 30 percent chance of rain on Friday and Saturday, this may suggest the prospect of mostly clear weather.
After an excessively hot and humid week, a drop in temperature is also to be expected this weekend. Gutierrez called for slightly cooler temperatures than last weekend, “It definitely will cool down Friday and into the weekend. Saturday it will be in the low 80s, Sunday as well. It won’t be like last week with high 80s and 90s. Cooler than last week.”
Friday and Saturday evening will remain cool, with a drop down to a low of 59 degrees on Friday night and a low of 63 degrees on Saturday night.
As for Sunday, Gutierrez forecast a likelihood of early morning showers, followed by a clear afternoon and evening with a high of 86 degrees.
This makes for another promising day for outdoor activities, such as Way’s Garden art show in Williamsport and The Strawberry Festival at Trinity Episcopal Church. Sunday evening will drop to a low of 58 degrees.
