The city of New Orleans is joining in pretty much every other metropolitan area in the United States Wednesday evening for another round of protests on the heels of the murder of George Floyd.
Though, it was a bit different in New Orleans Wednesday night. Star Saints quarterback and future Hall of Famer Drew Brees was on the receiving end of disparaging remarks from the protesters after his controversial comments from earlier in the day.
In an interview earlier on Wednesday, Brees noted that he believes protesting racial inequality in the United States by taking a knee for the national anthem is a sign of disrespect.
Needless to say, others around the football world did not take too kindly to this sentiment just over a week after Floyd was murdered by a now-former Minneapolis police officer.
That showed big time in the streets of New Orleans Wednesday with protesters chanting “f**k Drew Brees.”
The sentiment is obvious here. At the very least, some Saints fans are not too happy to have Brees as the face of their franchise. For many, this is about a whole heck of a lot more than football.
This comes with other Saints fans burning Brees’ jerseys.
Obviously, things will have to be smoothed over between one of the greatest quarterbacks in modern NFL history and his teammates moving forward. Though, fans might already be over him.
