TOKYO (AP) — Japanese high school baseball players heartbroken that their tournament was canceled over the coronavirus pandemic will get a special memento as consolation. Thousands of young athletes will get a small scoop of dirt from Koshien Stadium in keeping with a tournament tradition. Members of the Japanese professional club Hanshin Tigers recently dug up dirt from the stadium grounds for the mementos. Tigers outfielder Kosuke Fukudome said, “I think it holds special meaning that we did this for them together as a team.”
