The 'Do it for Dan' campaign organisers have confirmed that the one-year-old will be unable to receive the life-saving treatment he needs.
The heartbreaking news comes after the massive fundraising drive saw €3.3 million raised since early March for the young boy, who is battling type 1 SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).
After undergoing tests prior to the treatment, it was found that Dan had contracted a rare virus in recent months, meaning he has developed antibodies that will prevent the planned infusion from being successful.
Dan was diagnosed with the condition in December and €2.1 million of moneys raised would pay for a new treatment called Zolgensma in America that could've been life-saving for the toddler.
Speaking of the news, his mother Aisling said: "It has been a very tough couple of days and very difficult to get our heads around.
"We were devastated when we got the results back. The last few months have been surreal for us and although the news is very upsetting, we will never forget the kindness and generosity we have received.
"We could not be prouder of how our little boy touched so many people and bound so many communities together.
"We would like to thank absolutely everyone who has supported us, donated, fundraised, ran, sang, and danced in order to give our little boy a fighting chance at life, we will never be able to thank you all enough.
"All we ever wished for our baby boy was that he got a chance, and you made that possible.

The extremely rare and progressive condition leads to the loss of motor neurons that control muscle movement.
Dan requires ventilator support and such is the youngster's weakness, his parents Niall and Aisling have told that "a common cold could end Dan's life".
Campaign organisers have confirmed that they'll pledge €1 million of their funds to 'A Better Life for Livie' - a similar campaign raising money for a young girl to receive the same treatment.
Of the remaining funds, they'll be equally divided among families of children battling type 1 SMA while some funds will also be allocated to provide Dan with the healthcare and support required with his condition.
A large portion of the funds will also be held in reserve in the case of the development of new treatments for his condition.
