Spending time with people outside your household? Do it safely, says health unit - TimminsToday

It's been more than a month since there's been a positive COVID-19 test in the Porcupine Health Unit region.

Today, the organization is reporting another day with no confirmed cases.

In today's update, they are reminding people to continue with public health measures.

"If you are spending time with people outside your household, do it safely: keep 2 metres between yourself and others, or wear a mask where that’s not possible. If you’re sick, please don’t visit and call to get tested. Use proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, and do not touch your face," reads the update.

To date, there have been 65 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 57 are resolved and seven people have died. There is one known active case in Timmins. The last positive test was reported May 10.

The health unit is aware of 5,771 tests being done in the region, which is an increase of 104 from the last report. There are 163 tests under investigation.

As more businesses open up, business owners or managers wanting information on how to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in non-healthcare settings can access the health unit's workplace checklist here.

"As we develop resources or have information specific to businesses about COVID or other public health topics, you can be the first to know. If you are interested in joining our mailing list, call us or send us a direct message on Facebook with your business name and contact information, including e-mail address," according to the update.

Testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
