I had mixed feelings as I dropped two-thirds of our children off at school last week. On the one hand, thank God for that. On the other, hurrah. Ten weeks — only 10? — after the nation’s parents suddenly became its inadequately qualified supply teachers, the professionals were back in charge. Here, in preparation for the inevitable second wave because we sent our kids back too soon, are the lessons I’ve learnt.

1 You have to have a routine. That’s what all the experts said at the beginning. The children need it. It’s important for their wellbeing. So I went full military. Up at 0730 hours. Breakfast at 0800. Walk the dog 0820. Joe Wicks workout 0900 — and so on. It worked for
