About Takeshi’s Castle

A Japanese game show called Takeshi's Castle ran on the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) from 1986 until 1990. Takeshi Kitano, a Japanese comedian better known as Beat Takeshi, plays a count who owns a castle and poses challenging physical obstacles for players (or a volunteer army) to overcome in order to reach him. The programme became a global television cult favourite.

In Yokohama, Kanagawa, the Midoriyama (Green Mountain) Studios, which are owned by TBS, featured elaborate landscaping, including enormous man-made lakes and other permanent barriers.

On March 1, 2005, a shorter version of the programme with Hindi dubbing by Jaaved Jaaferi was broadcast on the Pogo TV channel. Jaaved's witty comments made the programme a huge success right away. Additionally, for a brief time, the show featured the experimental voices of Indian comedians Ahsaan Qureshi, Raju Srivastav, Sunil Pal, and Navin Prabhakar. The program's final Pogo TV episode aired in 2019.
